Make Innovation the Norm
Your Situation:
Our competitor has this uncanny ability to come up with new offerings that the market sees as innovative. They are pounding away at us. We’re constantly playing catch-up. Not surprising, our offerings get lost in the market with all the other “me-too” versions. And when we look at companies that have been really successful over time, they all seem to have innovation at the heart of everything they do. We want our company to be one of those companies. But where do we even begin?
Our Approach:
To establish anything as the norm in an organization means to root it in the day-to-day behaviors and decisions of managers and employees. Therefore we examine both material examples such as your resource allocation process and product mix to gain insights about where and how you can incorporate approaches and perspectives that foster innovation. The intangible, as well, can be equally powerful in reinforcing the primacy of innovation in what your company does and how it thinks. Values, both espoused and implied, often guide people as they prioritize how and where to devote valuable resources and time. Our thorough analysis of both the concrete and intangible dimensions of your organization reveals where sound business decisions can actually create an organizational immunity to innovation.
Getting Started:
We recommend you begin this exploration by having your executive team discuss its answers to the questions in the preliminary assessment listed below. You don’t need to answer each question – choose two or three that seem to be most relevant to your circumstances and devote a generous amount of time to exploring individually and as a team the different answers and perspectives that will surface. By doing this, you will come to our discussion that much more aware and knowledgeable of what it takes to imbed innovation in an organization’s DNA. We can then quickly move to a hand-full of opportunities to test out applying different methods or values to ensure your employees send the right ideas into the right processes.
