We’ve had our own “perfect storm” that tanked our market so bad that we’ve been tweaking our products for the past few years to keep things going and stay afloat. But most of the time we’ve based these tweaks on hunches and superficial trend data. And none of these tweaks have had any real impact in the marketplace. Making things bigger, smaller, cheaper -- it seems to be just random shots on how we can get consumers to buy our products. I need an approach that can systematically look at the market and help me see viable alternatives so I can justify where to invest to get my market buzzing again.

We start with finding out the portfolio of jobs your product currently satisfies. We then investigate why consumers hire your product and not others when they are looking for solutions to a particular job. We only talk with consumers who have already purchased your product to uncover both the situational context and value code: the circumstances when they go looking for a solution and why they pick your product and not others.  This value code gives us valuable insights into the trade-offs consumers make at the point of purchase and consumption.
